in a forest , an ecologist measured an area of 100 m^2 .she identified and counted all the tress in that portion of the forest .her data were as follows

Maple 87

Oak 66

Birch 38

pine 29

Determine the percentage compostion by volume of each species of tree in forest.

Write the fraction:

type of tree/total number of trees

and change to percent.

Total number of trees = 87 + 66 + 38 + 29 = 220

Percentage maples = 87/220 = 0.3955 = 39.55 %

Percentage oak = 66/220 = 0.3 = 30%

Percentage birch = 38/220 = 0.1727 = 17.27%

Percentage pine = 29/220 = 0.1318 = 13.18%
