A frequency polygon is a graphical display of a frequency table. The intervals are shown on the X-axis and the number of scores in each interval is represented by the height of a point located above the middle of the interval. The points are connected so that together with the X-axis they form a polygon.

A smooth curve which corresponds to the limiting case of a histogram computed for a frequency distribution of a continuous distribution as the number of data points becomes very large.

Frequency polygons are a graphical device for understanding the shapes of distributions. They serve the same purpose as histograms, but are especially helpful for comparing sets of data. Frequency polygons are also a good choice for displaying cumulative frequency distributions.

Frequency curve is obtained by joining the points of frequency polygon by a freehand smoothed curve. Unlike frequency polygon, where the points we joined by straight lines, we make use of free hand joining of those points in order to get a smoothed frequency curve. It is used to remove the ruggedness of polygon and to present it in a good form or shape. We smoothen the angularities of the polygon only without making any basic change in the shape of the curve. In this case also the curve begins and ends at base line, as is in case of polygon. Area under the curve must remain almost the same as in the case of polygon.
