Covalent and hydrogen bonds in water?

Why O-H covalent AND hydrogen bonded in water?

Why is it that the O-H bond in water molecules are covalent, yet the attraction that makes the H bond to the O in adjacent water molecules are hydrogen bonds?

How are they different bonds, strength and otherwise, yet they are all O-H bonds?

hydrogen bonds are the attraction of the hydrogen atoms in H2O to an oxygen atom in another molecule. This happens because the water molesules have polar covalent bonds. They share electrons between hydrogen and oxygen (covalent) but allign themselves in such a way that there is a positive and negatively charged end. The positive end of an H2O molecule is atrracted to the negative end of another molecule. These are hydrgoen bonds and what accounts for surface tension- why some things can float in water, why it hurts when you do a belly flop, etc. Hope this helped!
