find a common denominator (bottom number) in other words find a number you can divide into all three of the current ones. use 30 6, 5, and 2 all go into it, how do you get them there? for 2 you need to divide by 15 everything you do with the bottom you do with the top so change the first one to 15/30. next you do the same for 3/5, 5 goes into 30 6 times so change the bottom to 30 and multiply the top by 6 as well, 18/30. same for the next change bottom to thirty, 6 goes into 30 5 times so everything thing you do to the bottom you do to the top 5×5= 25, 25/30.

now put it all together: 15/30 + 18/30 – 25/30. use a calculator (if you have to) and ignore the denominators so its now:

15 + 18 – 25. simple now do that and your answer is 8 so put the bottom back in and its 8/30…now simplify you divide each by 2 so do it, now you have 4/15.

lil bit confusing but if you get it down its simple

First, you need a common denominator. This way the fractions are comparable.Looks like 30 in this case. You can always multiply all the denominators together and find a usable common denominator.(60),but 30 also works. Now change all your fractions to (something/30)

The first one is easy so you can check your method.

We know 1/2 of 30 is 15,but how did we get there?

30 divided by 2 times 1 =15 ,we’re just changing the way the fraction is expressed, not it’s value. 1/2=5/10 right?

So,

1/2 is 15/30

Next fraction 30 divided by 5 =6, then times 3 equals 18. So we get 18/30

Last one! 30 divided by 6 equals 5,then times 5(the top number) which equals 25.

Now we’re all set! all our fractions are expressed as something/30

So we’ve got 15/30+18/30-25/30

Now since you’ve done all the work to have a common denominator all you have to do is the math with the upper numbers

15+18-25=8 Therefore we have 8/30

This answer is correct!

However most people(math teachers in particular) like to see the denominator as small as possible. so we notice both the upper and lower numbers can be divided by two.

By doing that we end up with 4/15.

Cheers!

4/15

First you need to have a common denominator. That will be 30, because 2 and 5 and 6 will all go into that evenly.

So that makes the fractions 15/30 + 18/30 – 25/30.

That = 8/30 and that can be reduced to 4/15.

First step is to find a common denominator (the bottom number of each fraction).

1/2 + 3/5 + 5/6

30 is a common denominator (5 * 6)

Multiplying each number to give them all the same denominator (remember to multiple the numerator too):

15/15*(1/2) + 6/6*(3/5) + 5/5*(5/6)

This gives:

15/30 + 18/30 + 25/30 = 58/30

This simplifies to 29/15 which is one of your answers.

Hope that helps.

you need to make denominators equal. find LCM of denominators: LCM(2,5,6) = 30

1/2 + 3/5 – 5/6

= 15/30 + 18/30 – 25/30

= (15 + 18 – 25)/30

= 8/30

= 4/15
