Scientists use the metric system because it’s easier than the American system. Everything in metric is based on ten and deriving units is easy. For example, the unit for force in America is the pound. Few people realize that this is not the same thing as mass. The unit for mass in the America is the slug. The unit for mass in the metric system is the kilogram.

Another example is length. In America, we use the foot. The next unit down is the inch, which is 1/12 of a foot. The next unit down after that is 1/4 inch. After that 1/8 inch. The metric system uses the meter. The next unit down is the decimeter, which is 1/10 of a meter. After that, the centimeter, which is 1/10 of a decimeter. This is why it’s so much easier to use the metric system. It’s based on ten instead of all different numbers.

Because more than half the world use the metric system, United States are the only people that don’t. I imagine scientists want people all over the world to understand their experiments.

the metric system is the way that scientist measure things. It also helps them when they comunicate with each other because all scientist know it and it would be very hard for people with different languages to talk. So, they all learn and use it to be able to communicate clearly.
