How do you find the # of electrons in an atom?

If the atom is neutral (doesn’t have a charge), it has the same number of electrons as protons (or its atomic number). Then, for every positive charge, there is one less electron; and for every negative charge, there is one more electron.

You look at the periodic table.

Hydrogen has 1, Helium has 2, etc….
