Card/number problem 7th grade lvl. Help?

As it states in the book” Suppose you have 10 cards numbered from 1 to10. How would you order the cards so that when you follow the precedure below, the cards are in numerical order in a pile on the table, with the 1 at the bottom and the 10 at the top. (Note: You solution should explain what you did and why you did it)

1.PLace the top card face up on the table. (I know this will be 1)

2. Put the second card at the BOTTOM of the stack in your hand.

3. Place the third card on the table. (which should be 2?)

And so on.

I tried several time but didn work. SO if any one out there that could help that would be great. I will keep and trying an keep the question open. Thanks

this is an awesome problem. 1,6,2,10,3,7,4,9,5,8.

well first i did it and wrote down all the numbers in the order i had put them in, then did the whole thing. then i said, oh, 10 should be where 9 was. then crossed out 9 and put 10. etc… then i had all the numbers in the right order.
