CAN you help me with this problem?
In NY, taxis charge$2.50 plus $2.00 per mile for off-peak fare. How far can Palph travel for 17.50 (assuming an off-peak fare)?
Favorite Answer
So, the solution would be…
$2.00x = $15.00
x =7 1/2 miles
You have 17.50 to start with and then you subtract 2.50 for the charge leaving you with $15. Each mile is $2 so just divide 15 by 2 and that 7 1/2. That means Palph can travel 7.5 miles.
$17.50-2.50=15.00
then, take $15 and divide it by $2 so as to get the distance palph can travel.
$15/2=7.5
therefore, Palph can travel for 7.5 miles
If you want to do it as an equation, make m (or any variable) the number of miles. Since it’s 2.00 times the number of miles, it’s 2.00m, and it has a base of 2.50, so add 2.50. It equals 17.50, the amount of money he has.
So:
2.00x + 2.50 = 17.50 Subtract 2.50 from both sides
2.00x = 15.00 Divide both sides by 2.00
x = 7.5 7.5 miles
$15 divided by $2 = 7.5
So I would say 7.5 Miles
l71/2 divide by 4 1/2 = 3.333 miles traveled
15.00/2.00=7.5
7 miles
Anything over 7 miles costs another 2 dollars, which he doesn’t have
