First set the equation to zero by subtracting the 6 and adding the x to both sides:

x^2 + x – 6 = 0

Now you can factor this. You are looking for two numbers that multiply to give you -6 and add to give you +1(the cooefficient of x). Do you see that would be +3 and -2? Here are the factors:

(x +3)(x – 2) = 0

The “zero product rule” says that when two factors multiply to equal zero, one of them must be zero. So we set each factor to zero:

x + 3 = 0 or x – 2 = 0

and solve by subtracting the 3 from both sides of the first equation and adding the 2 to both sides of the second equation:

x = -3 or x = 2

that’s it!

I’ll give you the first step – move everything to one side of the equals sign. I’ll move everything to the left, and place in order, giving this:

x^2 + x – 6 = 0

Now it can be solved by a number of different methods, take your pick, (factoring, quadratic equation, wild guessing, etc) I’ll let you take it from here.

Good luck.

x²=6-x

0=-x² -x +6

0= x² +x -6

0= (x -2)(x+3)

X=2, or X=-3

add 6 and -x to both sides like this

x^2+x-6=0

factor

(x+3)(x-2)=0

x=2,-3

that is simple….. x=2

just use guess and check…. 2 squared is 4 which means 2 is x……….. then you need 6 minus 2 which is 4 and that would make your eaquation is true….

add x to each side

you get 2x squared equals 6

then the answer would be 2.
