Can someone help me with writing a speech?

I need to write a short speech (about 2 minutes long) about why I would make a good president for the NJHS (National Junior Honor Society). I just need some ideas; I don’t want the old “I think that I’m the best president you can choose” or the impossible “I’ll put a pool outside.” I really don’t know where to start and if anyone could just give me some ideas and tips on what to write, I would be really happy.

Attention-getting ideas: (if these are true for you)

-interested in helping the voice of the student body be heard;

-willing to listen to what changes & improvements students tell him they’re interested in seeing take place;

-believe the democratic system (1 person, 1 vote…”we have what others are fighting for”) can work in your school;

-believe you can get the attention of those who have the power to make changes occur at your school;

When you speak, put your feeling into it – use dramatic facial gestures, wave or fling your arms, and speak loud. Ask a rhetorical (not-to-be-answered) question or two (“Don’t you think we can do it?!” “How bad do YOU want change?!”). Animation will be appreciated by your listeners, and those who don’t care will select you for the good show alone.

Best wishes.

Decide what the president does, & tell how your personality &/or experiences will help you to do it:

“I’m Jane Doe. As you know, the President of the NJHS needs to be a person who can:

1) run meetings. I can do this because I taught Sunday school for three years.

2) speak in public easily. I won two awards in the school Speech club.

3) represent the club in the newspaper

4) behave well in school

5) get good grades…”

(etc.)

Well, for starters, you’re smart enough to know that when you don’t know something, you should ask questions. What does the NJHS actually do, and why would you be good at that. What are your qualifications. What makes you a better pick than the other candidates. Talk about your strengths, instead of making empty promises, and back them up with short examples.

ok, so think about the other people who are running. Who do you think will win? You know. You already know who will probably win, right? Why will that person win? Ask yourself that.

Why should you be the winner instead of that person you just thought of? Come up with at least three reasons why YOU are a stronger candidate. Are they good? If yes, then say so. Are you better? You better be able to explain why.

If you can’t. don’t run. By the way, do you think the other candidates are asking for help with their speeches? From anonymous strangers!??!

Think of the speech as being in 3 parts…like a story it should have a begining a middle and an end. Devote around 40 sconds to each part. Part one should be a little bit about you…why you are the person for the job…part two should be what you stand for and what you want to achieve…part three should sum it all up.
