Can someone help me with my math homework. You don’t have to solve it but just tell me how I would do it.
-1= -y over 4-6
I’m really confused on how to figure it out. I worked it out to 5=-y over 4 but I can’t get past that. I really need help.
Favorite Answer
-1=20/4-6
-1=5-6
-1=-1
1) First let’s start out by simplifying the denominator:
4 – 6 = -2 , therefore -1 = -y/-2
2) Multiplying or Dividing two negative numbers make a positive number. So, multiply -1 on the numerator and the denominator.
-1= -y X -1/-2 X -1 which will be simplified into -1=y/2
3) The y needs to stand alone byitself to get the final answer. So we’re going to multiply 2 on both sides.
-1 X 2= y/2 X 2 which simplifys to
Y=-2 which is the answer.
*NOTE* To move an number to the other side:
Subtract to move an Addition
Add to move a Subtraction
Multiply to move a Division
Divide to move Multiplication
*TIP*: Whatever you do to one side, you HAVE to do to the other.
-1=-y over -2 (because you subtracted 6 from 4), then 2=-y (because you multiplied the -2 on each side to cancel out the -2 under the y on the right side and multiply it by the -1 on the left side), then y=-2 (because you can multiply each side by a negative so that the y is positive and the 2 is now negative)
Hope this helps!
-1 = -y / -2
-1 = y / 2 (a negative over a negative equals positive)
then to get the value of y, multiple y / 2 by 2 to make it plain y. so then you have to mulitply the other side by 2, which is -2.
y = -2!
-1=-y/-2
multiply both sides by -2. -2(-1)=-2(-y/-2)
The right becomes +2 and on the left the -2’s cancel out leaving -y.
2=-y
-2=y(got this by reversing both sides) As long as you do the same to both sides, nothing changes.
