Start off with a common fact thats interesting.
eg. “What are cats? When we think of cats we may think of four legged comfort creatures that we have around our house”
The first line- may also include something that we can associate with everyday.
The rest of the paragraph will state what is in the paper. “Sometimes we may think of lions and tigers and we may not realise that these are cats. This paper is a brief description about cats.”
The last line of the first paragraph tells us what the paper is about.
Paragraphs:
1st paragraph: usually a definition (of what a cat is, in detail.)
2nd, etc… Include a topic sentence. For example,
Firstly, the cats have paws
3rd Secondly, the cats have a tail
4th paragraph, Thirdly, felines have four legs…
(alternatively, “on the other hand, “in contrast” etc…
The use of secondly, firstly etc…gives a good structure and order to your essay
Conclusion: just give an overall summary of all the points in the essay.
“As stated above, the cat is a mammal that has paws, legs and a tail. This is an important thing to remember…” (insert take home message thats sweet and ends the essay and makes it memorable”
