Make a comparison without using like, than, or as.

He is a dog.

That car is a rocket.

This test is cake!

A metaphor is saying that one thing or person is another thing or person without using the words “like”, “as if” or “as” (using these words would make it a simile)

Here are some examples:

Metaphor: Ralph was a monster when I awoke him for work this morning.

Simile: Ralph acted LIKE a monster when I awoke him for work this morning.

Metaphor: You don’t have to be afraid of my pit bull; he is a pussycat.

Simile: You don’t have to be afraid of my pit bull; he is LIKE a pussycat.

Metaphor You don’t have to be such a beast just because I came home a little late from work.

Simile: You don’t have to act AS IF you are a beast just because I came home a little late from work.

a SIMILE is a comparison of 2 unlike things useing LIKE or AS. Example:

Her hair was so long it looked LIKE spaghetti.

A METEPHORE is a comparison of 2 unlike things NOT useing LIKE or AS. Example

Her hair is spaghetti.

Hope this helped good luck.

Sarah is a pig. (She is not really a pig, it is just saying that she eats really fast.)
