Can anyone identify the fallacy and what type of fallacy it is ?

1.On a radio ad: “Have you been fatigued, irritable, moody? If these symptoms are ignored, you might become depressed or even suicidal! Ward off the blues by taking a pill proven to cheer you up. Millions of people have, and they’re glad they did!”

2.From a study group member: “I just don’t get it. One minute she says she’s coming, and then the next, she calls to cancel. I wonder if we can trust that the articles she submitted are what we need

3. From a teenager confronted by his parent about breaking curfew: “Why do we have to keep harping on this curfew thing? Let’s talk about that A grade I’m getting in algebra.”

Thanks for the help i had 60 questions and these are the three i need help.

1. This is definitely Argumentum ad Populum of the bandwagon appeal variety.

2. The seems to be non sequitur but it could easily be Argumentum ad Hominem (circumstantial).

3. This is ignoratio elenchi.

1. “Millions of people have, and they’re glad they did!”

I’m sure there isn’t a study of everyone who has taken this pill which states every single one is glad they did.

FALLACY TYPE: Bandwagon appeal: argument that a view X is ~orrec’t because everybody thinks so or that doing’ Y is right

because everybody does’ it ( sometimes included under appeal to the gallery).

2. “One minute she says she’s coming, and then the next, she calls to cancel.”

She isn’t literally calling every minute.

Also, her changing her mind has nothing to do with the validity of her reports.

FALLACY TYPE: False Cause: inference that A causes B on the basis of inadequate evidence. Also known as post hoc,

assuming the cause, & questionable cause

Non Sequitur (it does not follow): general term for arguments in which the premises, even if true, give no adequate evidence for the conclusion.

3. “Why do we have to keep harping on this curfew thing? Let’s talk about that A grade I’m getting in algebra.”

One has absolutely nothing to do with the other.
