Are quotes included in a formal essay’s word count?
This is for an MLA format essay, IB level if that matters.
the limit is 1200 words, mine is 1343 so not including quotes would help.

yes, quotes usually count. Try condensing words (I’m instead of I am, we’re instead of we are, etc), shortening some sentences, cutting out space fillers such as however and nonetheless
