AP European History?!?!??

can you please help me with this question?? I’m totally stumped. If anyone read A world lit only by fire…please help me.

Assess the validity of this statement:

” The German princes and people suppoted Luther’s reformation more for political and economic reasons than for religious ones.” And can you please relate that quotation to the book?

Please no stupid answers..I’m really stumped on this one. Please help. thanks a lot!

Yep, correct, but difficult to explain.

In short : The german emperor always supported the pope bc. he needed him to be made emperor. The princes disliked the emperor bc he limited there otherwise unlimited power. So, by becoming protestant, they could gain more independence from the catholic churches laws and taxes.Furthermore, the pope and the church were italian (based in Rome) and was considered decadent and corrupt and at that time there was a strong nationalist german sentiment.
