Let your students become a high pressure force using a balloon laid under the edge of a book as a pressure Gauge. As they apply air pressure (blowing) the Gauge (balloon) will raise the book off of the surface.
Demonstrate a siphon Place an empty container on a higher level and a full one below and with a pre-filled tube placed between them make the water flow up hill. Ask them to find out why this is working.
Show them that a frame in the shape of a square is weaker than a frame in the shape of a triangle and ask them to find out why.
Have a student pick up a heavy book with one hand and have the class watch for the shift he must make in his posture to off set the increase in gravity on that side of his body. Have the student raise and lower the book to see it the level of the weight makes any difference in his center of gravity. Ask them to lower and raise their own centers of gravity using things in the class room.
Test someone’s pulse.
Give them a piece of gum.
Ask them to chew it for five minutes.
