I’d say you’re out of luck. Even pacing yourself, there’s no way you could finish 340 pages worth of reading. You can consider what is more important, and if you have work to do on the books, you could finish the work for the book you’ve sort of read, and then try to go as far as you can in “To Kill a Mockingbird”.

Now, I’m against using Sparknotes as a replacement for reading, but if you would be willing to use Sparknotes as a last resort, and then get yourself to read the books after you’ve gotten the work out of the way, I would go with that. Definitely get around to reading the books, though. You don’t want to deny yourself these books.

Next time, also, I would plan out the books: see how many pages you’d be willing to read in a day, and then map out your time over a couple of days. For instance, if you have a 300 page book to read, and you can read 50 pages a day, make sure to give yourself at least 6 days to do it. That way, you’ll pace yourself and you’ll retain more information.

Well, this summer, I made myself a reading schedule for summer reading: on this day, I’ll read this many pages… no less…, which I started in May and ended in the middle of July. Unfortunately, I don’t have Honors English until second semester, so I’ll probably forget everything…

I suggest that you make yourself a reading schedule next summer… ex:

Lord of the Flies: 5-29-08… Chapters 1-2.

etc.

As for your situation right now… if you can, finish the 80 pages ASAP (but don’t rush through the book… that wouldn’t help.

I doubt you’ll be tested on the books on the first day of school… your teacher will probably give you time to review… spend the rest of this week reading the second book.

Good luck.

Just read and imagine and picture the book. That’s what I do. I’m just like you. I’m taking all honors classes next year and I have 1 book to read over the summer and I have not finished it yet. It’s pretty boring so what I do is read ahead and then you now something excitings about to happen.

Well, my first suggestion is to turn your computer and tv off and settle in for some power reading! If you have access to a book store you can buy the Cliff’s notes for To Kill a Mockinbird. read the cliffs notes FIRSt, but really read the novel. It’s a quuick and interesting read, one of the great novels in my opinion. You can totally read it by tomorrow, but in case you don’t make it. you’ll have gotten the basics from the notes and as far as you get in the book to expand on that. Good luck!!!

Well, get to reading? If that doesn’t sound good then try sparknotes.com or some other similar site and just read the summary of each chapeter. I passed an Am Lit class with an A+ without ever reading a book with sparknotes.com

Get off the computer and just read it.

Neither of those books are very long, and they should be easy to read. It won’t take you too long if you just sit down and do it instead of worrying about how long it’s going to take you.
