An essay is pretty much the same thing as a ‘paper’, right?

Is there any difference between a biology ‘essay’ and a biology ‘paper’? I know this is an odd question but it’s one of those that come up when you’re rather doubtful of yourself and start to think too much.

Not much difference. I guess ‘paper’ may refer, sometimes, to a longer essay, or a ‘midterm paper’ or a ‘final paper’, as opposed to a regular ‘essay’. But they’re used interchangeably, and length is usually specified anyhow.

Have faith! : )

May God bless you.

An essay is a literary paper. It’s words or literature. “Papers” can be on anything. It’s a catch all term. It can be a math paper, science paper etc.

So, all essays would be papers but all papers are not essays.

A paper is often used in science to refer to a work including references. An essay is usually not referencing, it is created soley by YOU.
