Algebra Math problems please help?

Ok, i take alegebra honors in the eight grade and im having some major math problems!!

This is some five step plan that we are learning in skool that i dont understand.

1.) one number is four times another. the larger number is also 87 more than the smaller number. Find the numbers.

choices for the smaller number: 29,30,33

2.) A clown wighs 60 lb more than a trapeze artist. The trapeze artist weighs two thirds as much as the clown. How much does each weigh?

Choices for the trapeze arist’s weight: 110,120,125

3.) The ninth grade class has 17 more girls than boys. There are 431 in all. How many boys are there? how many girls are there??

Choices for the number of boys: 191,202,207

4.)Western State College is 18 years older than Southern State. Western is also 2 1/2 times as old as Southern. How old is each?

Choices for Southern State’s age: 12,14,18

each question has u answer 2 question and then they give you choices for one unknown.

thank you and please show your work

#1) Use 2 equations:

4X=Y and X-87=Y

Solve one of them for X, substitute that solution into the other equation and solve, or just substitute your choices in to find a match, in this case it’d be 29, plug 29 back in for X to find that Y=116

#2) same thing

C=T+60 and C*2/3=T

follow the same procedure as the first one, and the answer is 120

#3)pratice makes perfect

B+17=G and B+G=431

the math in this one is even simplier than #2, no dirty fractions. just swamp B+17 in for G on the 2nd one and you get 2B +17=431, move the 17 and 2B=414, divide both sides by 2….B=207, but this time we also need the other variable, so plug 207 back into the first on for B this time, add the 17 and G=224. You can verify by plugging both B & G back into the second equation, and sure enough 224 + 207 = 431

#4)

W-18=S and W=S*2.5

substitute S for (W-18) in the 2nd equation. W=(w-18)*2.5 Distribute the 2.5 so W=2.5W-(18*2.5) or W=2.5W – 45 add that 45 to both sides so W+45=2.5W, subtract a W from both sides 45=1.5W, and divide both sides by 1.5 and you get W=30, plug that back in to the top and S =12

mutually Alan, Betty, and Chris have $31. A+B+C = 31: Eqn a million locate the quantity each and each has if Betty has $3 below Alan, B = A-3 : Eqn 2 and Chris has $a million greater effective than Alan and Betty mixed. C = A + B + a million : Eqn3 placed eqn 2 into eqn a million and into eqn 3 A + A -3 + C = 31 2 A + C = 34 : eqn 4 C = A + A-3+ a million 2 A – C = 2 : Eqn 5 upload eqn 4 & eqn 5 4 A = 36 A = 9 B = A -3 = 9 -3 = 6 A+B+C = 31 9+6 +C = 31 15+ C = 31 C = sixteen

1, Let x = small number

4x = x+87

3x + 87; solve for x.

x=29

2. Let x=trapeze artist

x-60=2/3x

solve for x

3. x=number of boys; x+17 = girls

x+x+17=431

solve for x.

4. x = Southern State

2.5x = x+18

1.5x = 18

solve for x
