First, you have to separate the inequality into two different ones

The first one will be -14<2j+3 The second one will be 2j+3≤6 Then we begin calculate the first one -14<2j+3 -14-3<2j -17<2j -8.5

In the explanation I substituted < with a line under it for _<. This isnt actually a solvable equation. It is all graphing. The graphing form is two equations: 2j + 3 > -14

2j + 3 _< 6 Simply solve line j : 2j > -17 j > -8.5

2j _< 3 j _< 1.5 Graph these two values for j.

re-write them as separate in-equalities

2j+3>-14, or 2j>-17, j> -17/2 or -8.5

2j+3<=6 2j<=3 or j<= 1.5 so the solution set of j is -8.5
