Algebra 2 question?

A clothing company makes jackets and pants. Each jacket requires 1 hour of cutting and 4 hours of sewing. Each pair of pants requires 2 hours of cutting and 2 hours of sewing. The total time per day available for cutting is 20 hours and for sewing is 32 hours.

If the profit on a jacket is $14 and the profit on a pair of pants is $8, determine the number of each that should be made each day to maximize profit. What is the maximum profit?

And thank you hayhabr for explaining the first question of this word problem. Your explanation helped me greatly. Now I am just wondering how to obtain the maximum profit? I don’t understand how the maximum profit can be calculated out of the information provided in the problem.

What you have to do next is graph the inequalities, which will form a quadrilateral with the x and y axes (the shaded overlapping area), find the vertices of this quadrilateral, and plug in their coordinates to the profit expression (14j + 8p) to see what is highest.
