The classroom provides carefully planned language activities designed for a certain group of students. Therefore, the language learning focuses more on the grammar use and syntax.
In the streets, a person can still learn language and maybe much more because language learning here is more experiential- comes from related, concrete and daily life experiences. Most often, slang comes from the streets as we communicate using common words which may be unnnacceptable in the classroom set up but are also effective means to communicate thoughts and feelings.

a classroom teaches you the rules of grammar, while the street teaches you to be fluent and spontaneous. The street, ussually ignores the rules of grammar for what it needs is spontaneity. The street is the application stage, some rules are broken here. But it is important to know the rules of grammar that is thought in school, so that one can know how to use it properly on the street.
But, I guess, one should learn the language in both the classroom and the street to be able to master it.
