1/A + 1/B = 1/C, where C is the rate of their working together. So 1/4 = 1/B + 1/(B-6), and B(B-6) = 4(B-6) + 4B, and B^2 – 6B = 8B – 24, so B^2 – 14B + 24 = 0, and so (B-12)(B-2) = 0. Clearly B must be 12, since A takes 6 days less. So B takes 12 days to finish the work.
