li stands for lithium. theres three shells/orbitals of electrons surrounding the protons and neutrons. the first shell has two electrons, second filled to eight and the last with how many more electrons are left, which are called valence electrons (#protons=#electrons, so subtract protons from ten and thats how many’s in the last shell)
