Set the equation equal to zero by moving the 90 to the left side then solve for Y. Once you get that answer plug in your Y answer to find X. I’m pretty sure thats what you’re looking for.

Whatever you do on one side of the =, you must do to the other to preserve the equality. Start by adding 12 to each side. This will cause the 12 on the left to drop out and make your 90 be 102. Then subtract 4 from each side. This will make the 4 on the left drop out and make your right side 98. Then add your “y” terms together. 4 Y’s and 6 Y’s make 10y. your equation now reads 10y = 98. Divide by 10. This makes your answer y = 9.8

The answer is

4y+4+6y-12=90

4y+6y=10y

=10y+4-12=90

Then you do

4-12=-8

=10y-8=90 Thats it. 🙂

you don’t have to finish solving it you just simpltfy it.

aurora is off base. move all the numbers to one side of the equation amd then put the variables on the other side.

The problem is you do not have an x in the place. Did you make an error or is this the actual equation. If it is the actual equation then X can be anything you want it to be (x is the set from negative infinity to positive infinity) since y’s values are not at all dependent on x. Only true if you copied the question correctly.

4y + 4 + 6y – 12 = 80

collect like terms

10y – 8 = 80

(+8) (+8)

10y = 88

(1/10) (1/10)

y = 8.8

There is no x as you have written it. We can, however, solve for y: Group terms; then, 10y – 8 = 90, and 10y = 98, so y = 9.8

I think you’ve written the question wrong. Since there is no x in the question, you can’t find x.
