4 Math Questions…?

Problem A: A fountain can hold 53,000 deciliters of water. How many kiloliters is this?

Problem B: What is the name of a length that is 100 times larger than a millimeter?

Problem C: How many times larger than a centigram is a dekagram?

Problem D: Name the distance that is 10 times smaller than a centimeter.

Can you help me solve these please? Meaning you don’t have to give me the answers, you could just give me the steps.

a. a deciliter is 1/10 of a liter. A kiloliter is 1000 liters. So 53,000 deciliters = 5,300 liters, which is 5.3 kiloliters.

b. 10 millimeters in a centimeter, 10 centimeters in a decimeter, so 100 millimeters in a decimeter.

c. A centi unit is 1/100th of a whole. A deca unit is 10 of a whole. So 10×100 = 1000 times larger

d. 10 millimeters in a centimeter. So, a millimeter.

EDIT — The guy below me is right except for C. His reasoning is correct, but to go from .01 to 10 it’s actually three decimal places, not 4, which is 1000. (.010 to .10 to 1.0 to10).

The girl two spots below me just forgot to convert the amounts to what the question was asking for A and B. She says A = 5300 Liters, but it asked for kiloliters, which would be 5.3. B = 10 cm which is actually known as a decimeter.

So the only difference of the answers is the missed decimal count and the correct conversions. The answers to your questions are:

A- 5.3

B- Decimeter

C- 1000

D- Millimeter

Okay to solve these you need to know the metric prefixes.

milli=.001 or 1 one-thousandths

centi=.01 or 1 one-hundreths

deci=.1 or 1 one-tenths

deca/deka=10

hecto=100

kilo=1000

Problem A: So since deci is 1 tenth of a kilogram you move the decimal point over until it equals 1000 so .1 to 1000 so its 4 places over then you do the same with 53000 which makes it 5.30 kilograms

Problem B: 100 times a number you just move two decimal places to the right like Problem A so .001*100=.1 or a decimeter

Problem C: Same thing as the last couple. so .01 to 10 is 4 decimal places over to the right so thats 10,000 times larger.

Problem D: Same process. .01 divided by 10 moves the decimal on space to the right so .001 or a millimeter.

question1)

1deciliter= 0.0001 kiloliter

53 000 deciliter = .0001*53000=5.3 kiloliter(answer)

ques2)

1 meter = 10 decimeters = 100 centimeters = 1000 millimeters

1 decimeter = 10 centimeters = 100 millimeters

1 centimeter = 10 millimeters

que3)

1 milligram is 0.1 of a centigram

1 centigram is 0.1 of a decigram

1 decigram is 0.1 of a gram

1 gram is the basic unit of weight

1 decagram is 10 grams

1 hectogram is 10 decagrams

1 kilogram is 10 hectograms

que4)

1meter=100c.m

10 times smaller means=10c.m

a. 1 decilitre= 1/10 of a litre, therefore 53,000 decilitres = 53000×1/10=5300L

b. a mm is 0.1cm. so 100x 0.1=10cm

c. a centigram is 1/100 of a gram, a decagram is 10g. so it would be 10 divided by 0.01= 1000x

d. 1 divided by 10 = 0.1cm which is the same as 1mm
