44/10 + 7/5
44/10 + 14/10
(44+14)/10
58/10
29/5
4 9/5
When you are adding fractions you need to add terms with common demonimators, which means you need to operate on the entire equation to get what you want. Lets look at the one you posted first…
4 4/10 + 1 2/5
First, lets remove the whole numbers and make them a complete fraction. Again, you need to have a common demoninator to add 4 and 4/10, so take the demonimator of the fraction and multiply it to the whole number.
This gives you 40/10 (which is the same as 4 if you divide 40 by 10). Now you can add 40/10 and 4/10 giving you 44/10.
For the second term, do the same thing. The demoninator in this case is 5 so multiply 1 by 5/5 and you get 5/5 + 2/5, giving you 7/5. Now your two terms are fractions… lets add them.
44/10 + 7/5
Now we again need a common demoninator… notice that 44/10 can be reduced. Lets reduce it… the common factor is 2.
44/10 = 22/5
Now we have a common demoninator.
22/5 + 7/5 = (22 + 7) / 5 = 29 / 5
Lets look at a more complicated fraction…
1/2 + 2/3 + 3/5
Again, we want the same denominator for all terms. Note that you can’t do two at a time… whatever you do to an equation you have to do to the whole thing. The easiest way to get a common demoninator is to simply multiply all the denominators together.
2 * 3 * 5 = 30, but lets leave it as 2 * 3 * 5 for now. Multiply the entire equation by ((2 * 3 * 5) / (2 * 3 * 5)). Note that this equals one and doesn’t change the value of the equation in any way. If you multiply anything by one, you get the same value back.
So…
1 / 2 * ((2 * 3 * 5) / (2 * 3 * 5)) = (3 * 5) / (2 * 3 * 5) = 15 / 30
(note, 15 / 30 still reduces to 1/2 so we know we got it right)
2 / 3 * ((2 * 3 * 5) / (2 * 3 * 5)) = (2 * 2 * 5) / (2 * 3 * 5) = 20 / 30
(again, 20/30 reduces to 2/3)
3 / 5 * ((2 * 3 * 5) / (2 * 3 * 5)) = (3 * 2 * 3) / (2 * 3 * 5) = 18 / 30
(18 / 30 reduces to 3/5)
Now we have…
15/30 + 20/30 + 18/30 = (15 + 20 + 18) / 30 = 53/30
53/30 = 1.77
If you run the original equation through a calculator you should get…
1/2 + 2/3 + 3/5 = 1.77
I hope that helps you with your fraction addition ๐
If you have trouble reading (math equations are extremely hard to write in plain text), write them out on paper in the manner that you’re used to. Good luck!

4 4/10 + 1 2/5 thn multiply 2/5 by 2 and u get 1 4/10
get 1 4/10 +4 4/10 = 5 8/10 then rduce and u get 5 4/5
The greastest common factor for 2/5 would be ten. 5 is mulpitled twice to get ten, if you multiple the denominator by 2 you must multiply the numerator by 2 also which will give you 4. So you get 4/10.
Now that you have the greatest common factor you just add the whole number and the numerators.
4 4/10 + 1 4/10 = 5 8/10 which reduces to 5 4/5
1 2/5=7/5 = 14/10
44/10+14/10 =58/10=29/5
(turn it into a top heavy fraction)
= 44/10 + 7/5 (14/10) = 58/10
(turn it back into a normal 1)
=5 8/10
if you didnt get any of this talk to you teacher when you get back
You can change them to decimals or notice that you have simplify 4/10 to 2/5 and then add them.
