1. x²+6x+8 > 0

(x+2)(x+4) > 0

so, x > -2, or x > -4

2. | x – 1 | = x -1

since the absolute value always gives a positive result or zero, then x must be greater than or equal to 1.

3. | x + 2 | + | x + 5 | >= 10

-10 >= ( x + 2 + x + 5 ) >= 10

-10 >= 2x +7 >= 10

-17 >= 2x >= 3

-17/2 >= x >= 3/2 <-- (answer!)

Hints:

1) Distribute X, add 8 to both sides, and then factor for X.

Your correct answer will be x = 2 and 4, then rewrite it for the inequality.

2 and 3) Remember to rewrite the equation twice, once to solve for the positive absolute answer and the other to solve for the possible negative answer.
