I believe an extra chromosome gives you Down’s Syndrome.

Having an extra chromosome always results in having some kind of syndrome. When you have one more than you need it messes up DNA replication and transciption, which is what makes our bodies.

Having an extra chromosome is called a trisomy, and Down Syndrome, for example is called trisomy 21. Trisomy 18 is called Edwards syndrome. Trisomy 16 is the most common, however most of these cases result in miscarriages.

Trisomy of sex chromosomes can occur too. XXX syndrome is having an extra X chromosome and Klinefelter’s syndrome is having two X chromosome and a Y chromosome (people with this sydrome are male, but have reduced fertility)

Although she does not have Downs Syndrome, she is a carrier of the disease. This means that if she has children she could pass the gene that carries this disease to her kid. This is why downs syndrome is bad and also people with the disease don’t look normal and they develop a lot later; they learn to speak a lot later and they have learning difficulties in later life. But some Downs Syndrome people are able to cook, drive and speak normally. You should research both sides of the story.
