who said this, i think it was an american president, i read it in his biography.. it might be abe lincoln but?

im still not sure.. it goes something like, not talking behind someones back, giving them justice and atleast having decency to let them defend for themselves… will someone give me that quote, either washington or lincoln said it, im sure it was someone historic.
