Maybe if your child wants “workbooks” go to Wal-mart and pick up those $4 Kindergarten books. They are fun too.
I too highly recommend “Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons”. The book is great. We started that in kindergarten. Both of them could read by 1st grade. That book is also only $20…..So $40 will get you started! 🙂
In first grade, I would recommend Math U See over Singapore Math.
* lots of playtime with various textures
* Shapes, Colors, Numbers/Math, etc can all be taught/reviewed easily with life items/experiences
* nature walks and observation skills
* manners
* tidying up and obedience
* visits to the library and other “field trips” to places the child is interested in ie as the fire station,etc
* if you feel you need them or your child likes them you can buy cheap workbooks at Barnes & Noble or Walmart type stores and supplement with those. They should NOT be the main curriculum
* copywork – keep a notebook for the child to write down words, copy words out of books/the dictionary, Bible verses, etc.
* Lots of reading aloud (and if the CHILD shows interest begin phonics)
That’s it! Really!!
They are around10.00 for a book, big enough for the whole year.
