The only expensive part of homeschooling is the time. You can spend minimally on used books and worksheets. You should see if there is a forum or local support group for home schoolers in your area. They provide great support, assistances on the difficult subjects and guidance for college entrance.

Depending on the state you are in, you could homeschool using a k12.com virtual academy. Depending on the state they provide the computer, printer, and internet connection, as well as all the books and materials you would need. With the virtual school you would meet with a teacher only a few times in the year and you are encouraged to participate in state testing (good scores for the school means it can stay open).

If you don’t like that idea, there are a lot of sites offering free lesson plans. The library has great resources for learning. Join homeschool co-ops and you can participate in learning with other homeschoolers. Join your local freecycle and see if they have any curriculum or learning materials…the possibilities are endless.

Homeschooling doesn’t have to be expensive. Try the library, try used book stores and used curriculum sales.

Also, some programs, like Switched ON Schoolhouse only run about $250 dollars a year for all subjects.

Homeschooling doesn’t have to be expensive. If you have a library card and a computer you can do it on nothing. I would suggest you buy a math book though. Even an old ps text from ebay will work. It is just easier than trying to wing math.

It doesn’t really cost much. You can do just fine with a pen, paper, and a few books. A library card and computer are good too. Or you can go through the public school online.

Most places have that and its free.

How can you not afford home schooling? It’s cheaper than public schools by far. That’s one of the public school systems quirks is that when a child is taken from their schools it takes money from the schools. Poorly spent money at that. This is where we went and these books are fantastic. The Spectrum series are very well detailed and we only spent $5.00 each on them.

See if there are other families that home school, maybe you could share materials or purchase at a cheaper price. Contact your local school districts. In some states, public school districts must provide assistance to home schooled children. Good Luck

There is an organization called “The Book Samaritan.” They give away used homeschool curricula.

I hope this is helpful.
