What are some good DVD homeschool programs?

I have looked at Abeka and it looks like the videos are about 45 min per subject. And then my child has do do school work. I figure it’s going to be an 8-10 hour per day program

I know that BJU has both HomeSat (classes by satellite) and DVD classes, they will also send you the entire curriculum on a hard drive that you can do on the computer. I don’t personally do these – my son just plain doesn’t learn that way – but I’ve heard really great things from my friends that use them.

The one thing that we do by DVD is math – we use Math U See (which I recommend 100%) and will be starting Videotext Interactive next spring when we start Algebra. (MUS also has algebra – precalc or something like that, but I like the setup of Videotext better.)

Hope that helps!

How do you get 8-10 hours??? Are you figuring a LOT of courses? With my curriculum, only the language arts strands and math are done daily to complete an entire year in 9-12 months. The electives courses are done 2-3 times/week. We do block scheduling for those, which makes them go even faster.

I would bet you’re looking at 4 hours – tops. You didn’t say what grade this is for – that would help, too.

I was going to suggest A Beka. We use their traditional program (not the Academy/DVD option), but I know several people who do use their DVD program and it does NOT take 8-10 hours per day.

I would suggest contacting them, or going to a Materials Display, and they have a catalog available for both the traditional materials as well as the DVD Academy. They also have sample schedules. At the Materials Display, they usually have a sample lesson plan DVD playing to give you an idea of it (they will also send you a sample free, if you have not already gotten one).

That is the only one I have any personal knowledge of. I apologize for not being able to be of more assistance. Good luck finding what will work best for you and your children!

i was going to suggest A Beka, but unlike having DVDs for ALL the subjects, just choose DVDs for your child’s tougher subjects–that way most of the subjects your child need not have DVDs. i studied under A Beka and only had DVDs for Science and Spanish. i did have English and Math DVDs before, but i found it unnecessary. and history and Bible can always be done by oneself–homeschooling teaches us to be independent and self disciplined πŸ™‚

at least i know i 100% was, perhaps because my mum was pretty strict… i do still suggest A Beka because it prepares you for university life–i studied this my whole life and know lots of others who use this too πŸ˜€

The Teach Your Child to Read in one hundred Easy Lessons guide labored good for us. Maybe your son does not have an curiosity in studying but? Some youngsters relatively do not, certainly boys. Maybe for now simply return to studying to him till he has extra of an curiosity, and do not pressure approximately it. He will learn! It might simply take slightly longer.
