You do not say if you would like to take a Christian approach, however this approach can work either way.

We look at the day’s of Creation.

Day one would be year 1, and so on.

A friend of mine repeats it each year at a different level, and uses the days as a 6 week unit.

There is so much to cover looking at these 6 day’s that you can mix and match however you’d like.

Use Magic School Bus, books, and DVDs, DK books, and DVDs, and Usborne; some are Internet linked so you can expand on the topic as much as you’d like.

We order the Usborne books through Scholastic’s, it is less expensive.

A few good web sites for additional resources that we use also are:

http://www.enchantedlearning.com/Home.html

This web site has computer software for free, just pay shipping.

The DK science disks are great.

A science game called the Way Things Work is great.

If you are looking for a science curriculum, there is Apologia, Abeka, Alpha Omega; I believe they are called life pacs, BJU and so on.

The only one we have used is Apologia, starting at general science around the 7th grade level.

I unschooled Science until grade 6. We watched every science show on TV. Magic School Bus, Science Library For Children etc. We talked about the world around us and looked up oodles of stuff for fun. I started and threw out grade 6 science because they were too advanced for it. We start in the fall with Apologia physical science and biology. In other words- we didn’t really do formal science until high school.

Honestly, just find books of experiments or do nature walks, look at the stars, listen to the birds. Dr. Jay Wile (of the highly-regarded Apologia science curriculum) even said that there is no need for a formal curriculum before junior high school (he was at our convention last weekend). He said they sell Jeannie Fulbright’s material because people were asking for an elementary curriculum and her writing style was very similar to his own.

We have used the Apologia elementary curriculum by Jeanie Fulbright. It is the “Exploring Creation” series. It is an immersion approach to science and my daughter has thrived on it, science has become her favorite subject. It starts out with Astronomy, then Botany, Flying Creatures, Swimming Creatures and so on. Your child makes a notebook for every book they do. We are on the 4th book now. The curriculum is for 1st to 6th grade, with different assignments for different levels. My High school daughter has even used them as a resource.

Good Luck!

In Missouri, this grade standards say that the following concepts should be taught in science (in public schools)

Earth

Sun

Moon Phases

Food Chain

Shadows

Inquiry based activities

Force and Motion

Matter and Energy

This of course, varies by state, but you were not specific in exactly what type of coursework you were looking for. Good luck.
