I assume that you are in the USA? If so, each state has different laws about children working, labor laws and work permits. Check with your local school, State Dept. of Labor or your local Board of Education. Or do a search online with “work permit” and your state. Most likely you will find the information you need and who to contact. There are federal child labor laws even if your state doesn’t have them (most do!)

I work permit just ‘approves’ the type of job that he is doing is not high risk or dangerous and that they will have the time to continue their education.

My son worked and was homeschooled. You just have to be stricted on him and set a time for his school work. I didn’t have to get a permit for him to work. I guess it depends on the childs age and who he works for.

The laws for each state are different, so I’m not going to guess where you live. Google “(your state) child labor laws” or “(your state) work permit” and I’m sure you will find the information you are looking for – including the state laws regarding work permits (such as, when one is necessary) and where to obtain one.

it depends on the state, your son’s age, and sometimes the type of job that he wants to get. check with your local district board of education, or whoever you report his academic knowledge to. most likely they will have the local school district your son would attend issue a work permit.

Him being homeschooled won’t affect the permit. And, work will definitely help him gain the social skills he needs for the future!

In our state, we obtain the work permit for the state dept of labor. We can download from their website.

It is signed by his employer and by his teachers which is his stepdad and me.

you can usually get a work permit at town hall, or at the town high school (even if you don’t attend)

depends on the state, some require a work permit at 14 and some at 15. check with your town hall.

also, i hope your kid isn’t sheltered because if he gets a job at some fast food place he could be in for a big surprise depending on where you live.

If I were in your situation, I would go to the district office in my school district. They will know exactly what you should do.
