Manners curriculum needed?

I am teaching a co-op class of children (grades 1st – 4th) and I need free resources for teaching manners. Do you have any websites? My searchs keep coming up with little or nothing or “The Goops”.

Wow! That is an ambitious undertaking. Good for you!! You might have to gather your own information and write your own curriculum. Try looking at this website:

It appears to be a resource for parents. Maybe there will be something that will work for you. Good luck.

I put in a search for curriculum manners and came up with tons of stuff.

I found a book that looked really interesting. You could probably contact your library system and see if they have it: http://www.amazon.com/dp/0761563601?tag=gomilpit&camp=15041&creative=373501&link_code=as3

Another thought – I constantly get these book advertisements in the mail (in the coupon envelopes like val-pak) and they have a book series on teaching manners. You could probably go to your local library and find some books on manners, read them to the group (or have them read it) and then do a Q & A session followed by hands on demonstartions.

For example have have two kids demonstrate sharing. You can also do really effective skits. If you can get another parent to come into the room in the middle of you talking, have them grab your book and walk out you could look shocked. Let the kids react and say “How RUDE! All she had to do was ask then I would have let her have the book when I was done with it”. I promise that will really stick in their heads a lot more than some curriculum you print up.

Good luck and THANK YOU for teaching something that kids really need to be taught!!!

you probably came up short because of wording.

I typed in “free etiquette curriculum” and got some hits. Of course, you have to hunt through a lot because teaching manners doesn’t seem so popular anymore (but boy is it ever needed!)

I didn’t go through and check all the resources, but try this:

http://www.teacherplanet.com/resource/manners.php

Also, when searching try all kinds of different variations of what you are looking for (if manners doesn’t work, try etiquette) and go ahead and type in exactly what you need like “free printable etiquette curriculum” It works.

And if one search engine doesn’t give you what you want, try another. I have three search engines on my tool bar.

Gosh. Where is Emily Post when you need her? The essence of good manners is to make all others around you feel comfortable and important. Or at least to not cause distress to those about you. Good luck. We need more manners in the world.
