Home-schooling is legal is all 50 states and all US territories. It is the root of education in our country. All of the founding fathers were home-schooled and most went to college at 13 or 14. Your are very fortunate to be considering home-schooling. Both of my adult daughters were home-schooled and will do the same for their kids. They both received academic scholarships to excellent colleges and graduated at the very top of the GPA ladder. They both also achieved top scores on the SAT and ACT. They have changes the scale and I do not remember my younger daughters score but my older daughter got 1310 on the SAT and 33 on the ACT. Those are Harvard quality scores!

There are three ways to home-school in Tenn. You can google homeschooling in Tenn and get all the information. If you need further assistance look up the Home School Legal Defense Assoc and they will walk you through the maze.

The FIRST place you need to check is, like the homeschool parents have said, is hslda.org.

That is the HomeSchool Legal Defense Association. They have a list of the laws for all fifty states, plus other countries.

You do not want to go to the school board or the school district or the local school UNLESS it is required.

Most of the time, the last place you want to go is the school.

If you are moving from another state, you may not even need to contact the school at all.

BUT each state is different, what works in Texas for me, may not work in Tennessee for you, so check with the experts first.

Good luck.

Many people here have criticized your spelling and grammar. Now if your question is truly an example of your best effort they might have a point, but personally I think you probably just used the kind of short hand/informal language I often see in e-mails, on discussion boards, and other on-line forums. If you homeschool you should be aware that people always scrutinize your academic skill, even if all you are doing is leaving a note to yourself!

To find out exactly what the Tennessee laws are, go to http://www.hslda.com look on the left hand side of the screen, click on the words “In Your State”, choose Tennessee, then click on “laws”.

Just another vote for NOT going to the school for advice or help. It doesn’t reflect well on them to have kids not going to school, therefore they will try to convince you to put your kid(s) in school. They may even give you wrong information (on accident or on purpose, who knows) or be very nosy and ask you questions they have no right asking and you don’t have to tell them.

Yes, this all happened to me. One district I was in gave me a thick packet of papers to fill out detailing what I would teach my son, the names of the books I would use, other things…. I got online at home and quickly discovered that in MY state they didn’t have to know a darn thing except my words “I’m taking my son out of school, thanks, bye.” (actually it was a slightly more formal letter to the superintendent but short & sweet)

They even tried to get me in trouble for truancy.

You need to do some research and find the laws in your state. Don’t just keep listening to other people, this is a law related thing, don’t trust word of mouth. Read the law for yourself. Find the Department of Education website for your state and find the law for yourself, then you will be confident in the future when people question what you’re doing.

Homeschooling is legal in all the states.

Honestly though if you yourself have difficulties spelling and use of proper grammar (aloud??reply i cuz?? yr??) perhaps homeschooling your children is not the best option for them.

We are already in an era of text messaging and chat speak, we don’t need parents teaching their children to use u, r, or cuz.

Try k12 curriculum or A beka, they send you the text books and teachers book so you don’t make any mistakes yourself.

The Danridge area of Tennessee follows the same state regulations as any other area so that is irrelevant.

Good luck.

Homeschooling is allowed in all 50 states.

hslda.org is a website that lists all of the requirements for your state.

Once you know the laws for your state you will know what kind of programs you might want to use.

The Parent must have a High School diploma.

YOu must resigeter with the state

You must TEST in grades 5, 7 and 9

You must show remedial material if the test is below aveage.

Anyone who cannot find this information for themselves should not be allowed to HOMESCHOOL

It’s that simple

If you can’t do a GOOOGLE or YAHOO search and find out this informationi you are too stupipd to homeschool your child!

You can home school your children anywhere throughout the United States. Just get in contact with the local school district and they’ll let you know everything. They’re generally very helpful (why wouldn’t they be? You’re paying their salary and not using their services).
