You probably have more options than you realize. Homeschool is one, but there may be others. I teach at a public school, but it is an alternative program. We have about 150 students, tops. Kids are on a continuous progress system, not semesters, so they finish and more forward when they finish and are ready. Some take a little longer than a semester, but most take less. If anything, it’s an accelerated program. Our students do very well on their state tests, too. Because is’a a public school, there are no expenses to the families. Most of our kids are actually on free lunch, which is what you would expect from an inner-city school. Since most of our kids have had bad experiences with other public schools, our goal is to make the school be whatever each kid needs for success. There is no teasing about weight or race or anything like that which doesn’t make a person who they are inside. There are no fights at our school. Most of our kids go to college after high school.

I guess what I’m saying is don’t be afraid–whether you decide to be homeschooled or not. Find out ALL your options. This isn’t an all-or-nothing situation for you. Making the best choice should broaden your world–not restrict it.

Depending on what state you are in, your state may offer an online public school. (Florida has FLVS).

If not check out JMHS or Keystone (or you can just google online high school) make sure they are accredited by a regional accrediting institution such as Southern association of colleges and schools. I use JMHS and they have a program set up for like $40 a month which is a lot cheaper than private schools.
