I need help with my homework……(7th grade math)?

its an extended response question.

Dan’s life

1/8 of his life as a young child

1/4 going to school

1/6 working as a professor

5/16 working as an engineer

The last 7 years he spent retired.

this is simple once you think about it.

first, add all of the fractions [i’m too tired to do it, so i’ll just call the final result x/y]

now what fraction do you need to make the fraction turn into the number 1? this is the fraction of his life equaling 7 years. Use this to calculate the rest.

edit: i guess it is 41/48, so 7 years equals the last 7/48 of his life.

if 7/48 of his life=7 years, then 1/48 of his life is 1 year

this means that he is 48 years old.

I’ll say 48.

By adding the fraction that are giving to you,

you will find 41/48. So having 48 multiply by each fraction you gave on the top will give you numbers(6,12,8,15) . You will then add those numbers and don’t forget to add the 7 (years he spent retired).

You should then get how old is Dan, which will be 48.

48. add all the fractions and you get 41/48 which leaves 7/48 left in his life. That 7/48 matches up with the 7 years left. so each year = 1/48. to check it take 1/8 times 48 and you get 6 which makes sense.
