You need a wardrobe.

You walk from class to class with only 8 minutes between class.

You eat horrible and expensive caffeteria food (chicken gravy with bits of meat over instant mashed potatoes for $4.50) you have to keep up with the class on a daily basis because the teacher has to cover a lot of ground in 50 minutes.

The only socialization you have UNLESS YOU GOOF OFF IN CLASS, is Lunch and Nutrition and before or after school.

You have to take PE and Shower every day.

You have to fit in with the Preps, Nerds, Geeks, Brains, Jocks and Goths

You have teachers yelling at you

Vice Principals yelling at you.

You have to back pack it every day.

You ahve a ton of homework that has to be in TOMMOROW or your grades go down.

All the kids will have Cell Phones and SideKicks

All will dress in the current standards of their peer group.

The olders students will have cars.

Any friends you make will live 2 miles from you most of the time.

There will be smoking in the girls room.

Making out in the doorways.

You’ll have to quickly decide which group you want to join and then you’ll be low girl on the totem pole.

The only good advantages are possibly Drama, Music, Crafts, an equipped Chem Lab, Shops like Auto Shop, Electronics Shop, Plastics shop.

You have to be there by 8 AM stay there until 2 or 3 PM

You bus it or wait for your ride or walk

YOu need a note when you’re sick. A note when you’re late (more than 9 minutes) and if you get caught being a bad girl you get detension and have to stay in study hall unil 4 pm and you can’t get to tell your folks unless you have a Cell phone.

Without a burning desire to take Drama and do stage plays. To be in the band and learn an instrument (you have to buy it). To be a cheer leader and go to all the football games home and away.

I truly can’t see why you want to leave the comforts of home and refrigerator with good food, snacks, the ability to go potty without having to raise your hand, ask permission and get a hall pass.

In 1997, a study of 5,402 homeschool students from 1,657 families was released. It was entitled, “Strengths of Their Own: Home Schoolers Across America.” The study demonstrated that homeschoolers, on the average, out-performed their counterparts in the public schools by 30 to 37 percentile points in all subjects. A significant finding when analyzing the data for 8th graders was the evidence that homeschoolers who are homeschooled two or more years score substantially higher than students who have been homeschooled one year or less. The new homeschoolers were scoring on the average in the 59th percentile compared to students homeschooled the last two or more years who scored between 86th and 92nd percentile.

This certainly doesn’t mean you will backslide in public school. By starting at a higher level, you will have an extra advantage in doing well. I strongly encourage you to hold your ground and convince your mom that this will be best for you. She may have a hard time letting go of her control over you. This is natural, but she should be proud of the job she has done so far and trust you to be able to continue to work independently in the public high school setting. You will have a far better chance of getting into a good college if you do. Good luck to you!

I went to public school, but I learned more at HOME than at school! At home you have the chance to learn things they NEVER cover at public schools, and read things they don’t cover until college!
