the best place for the legalities is hslda.org

they have all the requirements.

As far as working while homeschooling, yes it is possible. I have two part time jobs, one from home and one where i leave for a couple of hours twice a day. Not bad at all, very easy to work around a schedule like that.

I have a good friend that is a single mom and works full time, her kids are older.

another great website for TONS of info is http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/

Have fun researching!

The website that everyone mentions is the homeschool legal defense.

www.hslda.com

It is great for finding out the laws in your state. Then your next step would be to find out what type of homeschooling you want to do. Make up your own curriculum, do a packaged curriculum, unschool, etc. Many parents work and homeschool too. That is the nice thing about homeschooling is their are no rules as to what time of the day you do your schooling. You can do it on weekends or at night. Or early morning before work. It doesn’t take much time to homeschool at home.

Check out A to Z Home’s Cool Homeschooling. They can give you llinks for whatever info you may need. Also go to your states department of education website to find out exactly what your state laws are to ensure they are not considered truant. I get a lot of my curriculum from Ebay. Also try thrift stores, librairies, and used bookstores. This should help get you started. I assume that if you are considering homeschooling you are aware of the enormous oppurtunites to socialize your child that I don’t need to address any of the ridiculous statements made by some others. Check for a local homeschooling group to help the kids meet other homeschoolers. The only real advice you received was to google homeschooling in your city and state and you should get some hits for groups. To everyone and your absurd comments- she did not ask your opinion on homeschooling, she asked for information. It’s amazing the same folks preaching public school education don’t seem to realize you can review your messages for typos and grammatical errors before you tell someone else what’s best for their childrens education. Best of luck to you and check A to Z!

Wondering
Laws regarding homeschooling vary greatly between the states. In general, if you contact your local school district’s central office about this, they should be able to tell you what the laws are and how you go about doing it. In many areas, homeschooled children have some kind of contact with their local school district.

While reading your question, I developed one concern. I see several misspellings and grammatical errors in your writing, and they don’t seem to be from carelessness. I’m sensing that you may not be a native speaker of English (was your first language Spanish?) If you are going to homeschool your child, please be sure that your own language and writing skills do not negatively affect your child. If your language skills are not great, you may want to hire a tutor to help him with these subjects.

All the information you need to know about the laws regarding your state can be found at the web site of the Home School Legal Defense.

http://www.hslda.org

Depending on the age of the child, and how much they are able to work independently it is possible to adjust to both.

It may take a work schedule adjustment, as well as a life style adjustment, but if all are willing to give, and take to make it work, it will.

We have home schooled for many years, and have found that no matter what there are always going to be some snags, just be flexible, and do not listen to those who’s first reaction is ” you can’t”..

Blessings,

and good luck.

As many other responders have stated, check out the Home School Legal Defense Association for the homeschooling laws in your state.

Many parents work and homeschool simultaneously. Following is the link to an online group dedicated to those who work/go to school along with homeschooling:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WORKandHOMESCHOOL/

I hope this is helpful.
