Homeschooling PE?

Okay. So, right now I’m homeschooling, and my mom has got me on a PE schedule where we go down to the beach every day and I have to run for an hour.

We’re thinking of enrolling me back into public school, probably not now, but sometime in the future.

I know that in the school district I’m in you have to have two years of PE to graduate..

We can’t really prove that I was doing it, like we can with math and subjects like that..

If I go back am I going to have to take those 2 years again, even though I’ve been doing it at home?

And is there any way I can somehow prove that I’ve been doing it at home..?

Simply document the activity every day. You might want to also do some sort of sport or join a bike or swim club…martial arts? Then you just collect the information from those groups and have them write a letter for you explaining your participation. Good luck.

It depends on what the school will accept and what type of homeschooling you have been doing. If you have not been enrolled in an umbrella school (like abeka or laurel springs)and your local school will accept a parent generated transcript, then all your mom has to do is list your PE along with the other courses. There really is nothing to prove there. If you have been enrolled in a program like that and you can get an official transript, then it will already be listed.

but if the local school will only accept an official transcript from an accredited school offering homeschooling (that is how it is in my state) and you do not have one, you would probably have to go through a series of testing for grade placement and there is a possibility that you may have to make it up. I only have experience with homeschool students entering 9th grade from homeschooling without a transcript and higher grade levels with transcripts.

to find out what you would need to be enrolled in the public school (better to start now if you think you may go)got to the website for your ISD or your state education agency and find their admissions policy for homeschool students.

And btw, you get to run on the beach? lucky you!

You probably will have to do two years of PE if you don’t do anything else that’s formally recognised. However, you sound like you’re pretty active and you’re doing well to run for an hour on the beach. I think you will enjoy 2 years of school P.E. My P.E. classes were the best of all my classes when I was at school.

The only way you can prove ANYTHING is through documentation. If your mom had been taking photos or video of you, or keeping track of your days, times, and distances, that MIGHT be one thing. Or it might not.

Around here there is a gymnastics studio that runs homeschool PE classes.

Electives such as P.E. will have to be taken again in order to get the credits for it. There is no way of proving it and no public school would accept any proof even if you had it, sorry. I suggest finishing up in homeschool, it is the best!

If you are going to be going back to public school, accepting your PE is the least of your concerns. They might not accept your English, Math or anything else.

You need to talk to the school you’d go back to and find out what they would want in terms of proof–or if they’ll even accept any of the work you’ll have done.

You should try an on line charter school…most times you only need documentation like a chart to show the days and times and the activities. My children would write down when they play basketball, go swimming, walking ..really any physical activity can be used

Join a local homeschool suport group…they normally have sports available.

Might be better to get into league sports as well. Soccer, softball, bowling. Then you’ll have pictures and possibly awards to show.

P.E. wont matter when you go back to school, they will test to see your academic level not how physically fit you are
