Homeschool?

okay. i REALLY want to be homeschooled.

i just moved from California to another state…

all my friends are in Cali

i have some friends here.. but its not at all the same

plus i hate my school

and my teachers

my mom doesnt think homeschooling is the best thing for me.

she would homeschool me if she knew it was the best thing.

but she doesnt.

how do i change her mind?

Feedback from anyone who is homeschooled would be nice.

Even if you aren’t homeschooled, or you’re not in school… you can still answer.

Thanks so much.

I am homeschooled with an online school. It took some convincing for my parents to let me, too. I had to research homeschooling, and give them options of what to do. We found out that our state’s homeschool program isn’t accredited, which means on my transcripts, the years homeschooled would be blank, and I’d be short on credits.

So make sure your state’s homeschool program is accredited, first. And if it’s not, check out an online school. Before signing up with one, call the college(s) you want to go to, and make sure they accept the online school/your state’s homeschool program’s accreditation.

I am a teacher in CA that works with home schooled and independent study students, so I hope I can help. I know moving during high school must be hard. Don’t get discouraged too quickly. Home schooling can be a great experience if it is the best learning environment for you (if you are an independent student with family support). Have your mom check out some of these charter school sites with you to see if they offer services where you live. If you research together, it may be easier. If there is “charter law” in your state, you can also contact your local school district to see if they have a home school charter program for you.

Good Luck!

Ummm…..homeschooling should not be you locked in a basement someplace or chained to a table. real international activities may be the better portion of a house based guidance. We backyard and pass to parks and farms. We attend multiple lectures and my daughter grew to become into inspired to do some photographs this wintry climate. My daughter likes to motorbike interior the afternoons, sculpt maximum mornings interior the solar, pass with acquaintances to the library, pass procuring and to the movies on weekends and we the two soak up paintings exhibits on each occasion we are able to. We use city buses and trolleys to get the place we would desire to pass. We motorbike the greenbelt and draw close out on the skate park for “gymnasium classification”. in case you hate this manner of homeschool you at the instant have, substitute it thoroughly! There are as many the type to homeschool as there are homeschoolers. at the instant my daughter and a chum have become collectively to observe a weekly PBS particular on community human beings. They watch and talk collectively as they have Rocky street ice cream and luxuriate in each and each others company. If my daughter hated how she schooled, i might tell her that grew to become into her fault for lacking mind’s eye and gumption, because of the fact we college in accordance to her tastes, abilities and plans. you ought to attempt that too.

Okay, so I’ve lived in California all of my life, and I’m in middle school at the moment. I’ve had to move three times so far within my middle school year and it has sucked sooo bad, not to mention that I’m SUPER shy and self-conscious. Anyways, ever since 6th grade, I’ve been asking my mom if I’d be able to be homeschooled and she’s always said no. But like, just recently, she just felt bad that I had to keep starting over (because we just moved again over the summer), so she gave in and agreed with it. But seriously, I hate it! Sure it’s cool that you don’t have to go to school everyday, but jeez I’ve gotten SOOOOOO much work. I understand that I have to have more work because I’m not going to school and learning with a class, but whoa, they make me do like twice as much as a normal kid does in school and with their homework. I just started homeschool on Tuesday (Sept. 18) and I’m already giving up. And it makes me worry because I’ve maintained a 4.0 throughout 6th & 7th grade and I don’t want my grades to end up going down. So if you’re going to do anything, I think it’d be best to go to a public school because homeschooling isn’t what it seems to be.

Moving your freshman year can be tough, that may be why your mom is putting you off. She thinks you’ll get used to it. Anyway, the best thing you can do is get her wtih some local homeschoolers and they will sell it to her with no trouble. Look online for homeschool unions in your area, or talk to local libraries and school supply stores to put you in touch.

Anything you pull off of answers is not going to be as persuasive to her as letting her see it in action for herself.

There are tons of good reasons to homeschool, but getting your mom a face to face with other parents will dispell a lot of her concerns, and she can talk to other parents about how it works.

Hey Rawrr!
I am homeschooled. It is extremely lonely to homeschool unless you get plugged in to a coop. Arkansas has a lot of coops thought. If you are just trying to escape school don’t do it. It is a discipline.
My contact info is on my blog if you want to know more.

I was homeschooled for high school and it was so-so. I definitly didn’t learn as much as if I went to school..but I came out with a diploma (actually went back my senior year). Definitly check out the laws for your state but if you do go for homeschool the best advice I can give you is to take college courses at a local college. I took a few and most of them are actually easier than High School courses. But they can count towards both high school credit and college credit. I have a friend who I took a few class’ with while I was homeschooled (he ended up taking more) and he graduated High School with his Associate Degree at a Community School.

Another thing is to plug into other activities in your town. Most schools will even allow you to do sports and things with the school if you live in the town even if you dont actually attend the school. So definitly make sure you do that so you get a full social life.
