Does a local junior college participate in a state run program to qualify college credits toward a high school diploma? In our state it is called Ability to Benefit. You take an entrance test to prove you can benefit and do well in the college setting. Then after a prescribed number of credit hours (I think 18) you are issued a high school diploma by the state. You’ve gotten 2-3 semesters of college under your belt AND your diploma. Check with the local college guidance office, see if this is an option.
Check with your local public school district to see what they offer for Adult Education. Many have courses you can take as an adult to finish your high school diploma. They will offer you access to a guidance counselor to help with the process. Some have daytime programs, some have night programs, some have both.
You could homeschool your remaining high school requirements. When you are finished, just add them to your high school transcript and you can write your own diploma (just like many homeschoolers’ parents do). You can find your state’s graduation requirements by Googling “your state” department of education. They should have it listed on their site somewhere. Drop by your previous high school and see if you can get a copy of your transcript to know what you have left to get your diploma according to the state. You don’t have to register to homeschool since you are above the age in any state to be covered by mandatory attendance laws.
GED enters at a lower level pay grade in the military (have seen it happen with a homeschooler who took the GED, BECAUSE he had taken the GED and they found out, they disallowed his homeschool diploma which would have gotten him in at a higher pay grade). GED IS perceived differently by employers. When I had hiring duties, I scrutinized GED applicants much more harshly than a diploma’d applicant. I am aware of no “equal opportunity” law for GEDs. It is considered the same as the difference between where you got your college degree. You can judge someone better or worse because they graduated from a different college, same with the method of high school completion or GED. GED is not the same as a high school diploma, so you are right to want to get that instead. (That is very unpopular, thanks for the negs I get. But, people need to know the truth.)
They have a fast track program which u can take and graduate in 4 weeks.
