They are ancestors of modern cattle. Shaggy, half buffalo and half cow/bull. My dictionary says that they are extinct, but I made a visit to a large estate in Northumberland, right on Hadrian’s Wall, where I saw a herd of them – from a safe distance.

Edit – That visit was nine years ago, but I still have the brochure. They weren’t aurochs, they were “The wild white cattle of Chillingham”, and what I remembered was the way they were described to me. Sorry.
