I know some people who are home schooled and it can be a good form of learning. That being said you do miss out on social interaction when being home schooled. And also don’t expect to be able to sleep in and start the day whenever you actually have to do work. There are standards and rules that need to be followed and I think you still need to take certain standardized tests.

Whether or not you could be depends on you and your parents. Look it up online at www.hslda.org . I can tell you that our family unschools, it’s a LOT of fun, for me and the kids. As for all the social stuff, don’t let a couple of people tell you it won’t happen, we spend most of our time hanging out with friends, we do sports and other rec stuff through the city (which is better because MORE people are involved, rather than public school sports where it’s limited to only those prima donna’s who are the best). We do band, orchestra and scouts, and we have a ton of friends who are homeschooled and we see most every day of the week.

Life is what you make it, if you choose to be scared and unsocial, then that’s the life you chose. Anyone can feel that way, whether they were in public school or private or at home. If you spend your life finding your passions and exploring what you want to know and being friendly, then that’s what you’ll find! Homeschooling is awesome because you can learn what you want, when you want! You can be as social or unsocial as you want.

yes i think it’s a great idea! I’v been homeshooled since 5th grade and it’s really fun! you get alot more education than if you were in real school. because there is no destractions , and you can work in your own pace, fast, or slow. and the best thing is is that your mom is your teacher! you dont have to be shy anymore to ask questions that you dont know. Your also not exposed to drugs as much as the other kids at school, there are no nasty rumors about you, there are no bullies, people wont pick on you if your pretty, and the list just goes on! I hope your happy with whatever decision you make!

Well im home schooled well actually im schooled over the internet. It can be fun because if you do your work and get ahead you can have alot of free time. But in order to do this and succed you need to be very disiplined. I admit I tend to get lazy sometimes and not want to do the work so keep that in mind you will be in your home and there are alot of distractions. But if you can do it it is a great! I suggest you get some other outside activities to do becasue you’ll get bored if you dont. 😀 Hope I was some help!

Well…to start off, I’ve been homeschooled for a number of years but I did go to a public school. So I’ve had some of each world.

It is a lot of work. You need to be able to self-manage and to have quite a bit of self-discipline. Your mom/dad will only go so far with nagging you to do your work. You do have to be committed yourself. Also, it can get dull at home so if you do decide to be homeschooled, make sure that you have some outside activities to do as well. Join a choir. Civil Air Patrol. etc.

Negativity aside, homeschooling is the best choice I made. I love the ability to sleep in later, go to bed later, and complete my schoolwork in less time than it takes public schools. On a good day, I can complete all of my subjects (math, English, science, history and my elective) in about two hours. It is definitely and experience I would go through. I love having more opportunities to manage my own time as I feel it is a great preparation for college.

Also, you can join umbrella schools who will offer a prom, homecoming, graduation, etc. I did and have gone to the Prom, our Homecoming and a Spring Fling dance – and I’m homeschooled. Don’t let people tell you that as a homeschooler you will be unsocialized, never get out, miss out on such-and-such, etc. You will only miss out if you choose to miss out. Look around; there are a lot of ways you can participate.

So to conclude – yes. I would homeschool. It is fun. It can be enjoyable. And you can choose your own curriculum and can choose which subjects to do which days. But make sure that you don’t just confine yourself to your house. Join the Civil Air Patrol, a choir, audition for a play, take up music lessons, join a recreational sports league – anything.

But yes, I would do it.

I am currently enrolled in Penn Foster High School. For me I got out of high school for personal reasons. I refused to go back to school where everyday was a challenge for me and pressure through out the day. Being at school I noticed I was wasting a whole lot of time doing nothing. I decided to take this high school program because I can work at a MUCH faster pace and get it over with faster. And that’s what I wanted. I hated working at the school and the classmates pace where I forced to go sleep due to the fact that I finished quicker than the others. You have so much more free time to do others things. The most I spend a day doing work is two hours. You could do more but I don’t want to stress myself so much! 😉 By finishing up faster you get lots of opportunities opened up to you. There are lots of things you need think about before you make a decision like this but I highly recommend it.

If you are willing to work hard and your mother or father is willing to put the time into overseeing your work, then certainly you can do it. Don’t listen to all of the naysayers about not being able to socialize or not learning enough. That is only the case if you aren’t willing to put the effort into it. For a lot of kids, homeschooling is a great fit. For others, it just doesn’t work well for them. Unfortunately when you ask those kinds of questions, the negative answers always seem to come across so loudly. It has so much more to do with the individual attitude than with homeschooling itself. There are pros and cons to every decision we make in life, and it really is a matter of looking at what is important to you.

I was home schooled, and I know what it is like. I lost all of my friends within the first year. My father always promised me that I would have friends, but I never had any. It was soooo lonely! My father wasn’t/isn’t the most playful person, and wanted me to turn out like my brother. My brother got a scholarship to Yale, but I don’t think it was just because he was home schooled. He got lucky. Where is he now? Partying away in Yale. Not exactly my father’s dream.

I tried to reconnect with my friends, but the spark was never ignited again. They stopped returning my calls, and just forgot about me. You know that saying “Out of sight, out of mind”? Well, that was the exact case here. However, your experience might differ. I had no siblings, the occasional cat (it just isn’t like human companionship though), and lived in a childless neighborhood. My childhood just wasn’t a childhood. No friends, no fun. Just my father and work. I didn’t like it at all.

It’s as fun as you make it.

Depending on where you live and what type of program you use and your parents, you might have to use a shedule or you can wake up when you want to and work late if you want to, so long as it works and eveyrone agrees its cool.

You should get involved in outside activities like dance, the Y, bowling, shopping at the mall, self-defense, soccer, softball.

If you work hard at it you can finish school 1-3 years ahead of those in public school.

My kids say it is. They are finished their work by noonish or 1:00 and then the afternoon is their own. DS who is a teen can have a job. He has a lot of spare time for his interests.

He has started his own business as well.

My younger girls love it because they get a lot of time to use their imaginations and play a lot. Yesterday was International Talk Like a Pirate Day and we turned out house in a pirate ship. They dressed up like pirates and we had a blast. Their older brother made a huge treasure hunt for them. That’s what I call a day of school.
