Work study?

I am qualified for work study at my university. I’ve never had a job yet and this work study job may be my first. So what do I do now? I am really confused with this work study thing. I know that the next job fair is next week and the first day of school is also on the same day. Should I go to this job fair and if yes what should i do, bring, etc? And plus during the summer i have applied to many retail stores near where i live but i havent been hired at any of them yet so should i still wait for them while im doing this work study thing. And is it a good idea to be working 2 jobs? thanks for any help!

there are many perks to work-study. The most prominent are that they are on campus and that they are very lenient with your school schedule. For example, during final exams, they would not expect you to work as much and it is much easier to get off for breaks such as winter or spring break because the school will be closed.

Because you have not yet built up a resume, this might be the perfect place for you to start. Other jobs will look at past work experince.

It still can;t hurt to apply for more jobs outside of the school if they pay more or are more interesting to you. Working two seems very unnsecessary and only causes more complications.

At the fair make sure to get everyones names and information. THere are often application you can fill out there, and the people at the booths often have a say in the decision, so look proffesional and have a good attitude towards them. THe most important thing about interviews and similar situations is to make yourself stick out in a positive way.

Good luck

Almost a college grad!!!
Work study is just an on-campus job. Typically they don’t pay much, but its enough for a college student to go shopping with :). They also will work around your class schedule. Go to the job fair and also go to your school’s career center and someone there should be able to help you find a work study. I wouldn’t recommend working 2 jobs especially as a first year student. Concentrate on studying and having fun. Hope this helps.

Most work study jobs are on-campus jobs in departments that need workers but can’t afford them. For instance when I had work study I was an Art Attendent at my colleges art gallery. In many way is make you more hireable for on-campus jobs because there aren’t the one paying you.
