Where do I begin for college??
Im 21, and a veteran. My husband is Active Duty Air Force, and we have a son, who is 1.5 years old. Im a stay at home mom, and id like to change that. We need the money, and i need the sanity. I graduated from an uncredited private christian school, but i have a “Diploma”. I have never thought of myself as a college “go getter”. But, there arnt many ppl who hire without a. experience, or b. schooling within the jobs qualifications. I would prob. be going to Clovis Community College, in Clovis, NM.. and more than likely, id be going for Nursing. i have NO idea where to begin… i DO NOT have the money to go… i DO NOT know anything about courses, or credits, semesters… and all that jaz.. I know i could prob. go to the college and talk to an advisor.. but id like to know SOMETHING before i go. Not to mention the fact that my husband is a firefighter in the AF, and he works 24 hour shifts, every other day. =-( so.. how can i do this?? Someone.. please help!! ps. no vet benifits!

The best approach is maybe heading to the local workforce or welfare office to get help with childcare, so you could attend college (should be listed in the blue pages of the telephone book under state government services). Second, I recommend applying with the FAFSA form which will provide grants, need based scholarships, and even campus work study money based on your family size (3), your husband’s income, and savings. I will also include some other free resources to help you with the process listed below. Good luck!

if you don’t want to put your son in day care try online courses there are colleges now that even allow you to go to some classes at the school and do online work when you can’t make a day you need to research the schools in your area…you are still young try getting financia aid, grants, scholarships and loans a lot of schools even ahve partnership loans that you can apply for. School doesn’t have to take you 4 years to complete work with an advisor so you can take as many credits as you can handle and get done quicker

The first thing you need to is apply to the school. You won’t be obligated, but that’s what you need to do first (with Community Colleges you basically fill out a form and it is automatic.) Then you need to go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and apply for financial aid. You will need your tax files from last year.
You can do this. There are lots of classes that are totally online and you don’t even step into the classroom!
Good luck, I’m 32 and I just went back last Spring and it has been awesome.

Start at www.fafsa.gov, this will walk you thru’ applying for a pell grant. From there, you apply at the school you want to go to, you may have to take the ACT but you can, most likely, get online classes, it will allow you to be at home with your baby and still be in school, you could even hold down a job and be a full time student online. (I am one!!!)
Start with the fafsa, once you get approved, go to the school and talk to an advisor. Good luck!

go to the college website, they usually have alot of information for prospective students. also if its not easy for you to visit you can call first, and talk to an advisor, so when you actually visit the campus you’re not walking in completely blind.
