when applying for college financial aid and parents are divorced, do they look at income for both parents?
eventhough child lives with one parent — do they consider the income of the second parent?

Yes. When you fill out the FAFSA, you will need to use the “Non-Custodial Parent” form, which takes into account the financial situation of the parent you don’t live with. I don’t know exactly how they calculate it, but I don’t think they assume your non-custodial parent is equally financially responsible for you. There is also a section on the FAFSA for “other information” where you can explain what role, if any, said parent has in your life and is that parent plans to help with college.

I applied for Financial Aid in college 2 months ago and i remember that they gave me a paper with all these crazy questions like what’s my fathers annually income,what was his income 2 years ago, what’s my moms income, how much taxes are they paying annually etc…but i can say that it was worth..so the answer is that Yes they will ask you these questions even thought they are divorced but i recall that i filled the gaps with my own answers like their income and stuff because they are both in greece
